GE Gas Compressor Crankshaft Repair Onsite Port Harcourt Nigeria

GE Gas Compressor crankshaft developed the problem on board a vessel in port Harcourt Nigeria. The vessel is part of oil rig operations in high seas.

RA Power Solutions deputed two technicians along with on site portable crankshaft grinding and crankshaft polishing machine to port Harcourt Nigeria from where they were taken on Helicopter to the vessel as the requirement of repair was urgent.

The details of compressor and crankshaft is as following:

Following jobs were conducted by our technicians on arrival.

• As can be seen from the photographs below the crankshaft was removed from the compressor crankcase and was placed on the wooden blocks.
  
• All the six crankpins and main journals were dimensionally checked for taper, ovality,hardness, crack detection and found within limits.
• Due to continuous running of GE Gas Compressor deep bearing line marks, pitting and rough surface on crankpin and main journal was observed.
• It was jointly decided to undertake only the polishing of all crankpins and main journals.
• RA Power Solutions undertook the polishing operation and removed the bearing line marks, pitting and improved the surface finish to less than 15 RA value which is considered to be far better than the international standard.
  
• The new bearings were used and the compressor was put back into operations.
