MAN B&W Model 6 L23/30 Crankshaft Repair

MAN B&W engine model no. 6 L23/30 crankshaft of the auxiliary engine on a vessel met with a serious accident. The lubricating oil pump failed causing damage of all six crankpins.

RA Power Solutions team of two senior technicians along with a crankshaft grinding machine boarded the vessel in Singapore on inspection of the crankpins it was observed that due to seizure of bearing all the crankpins were badly damaged even the radius fillet of two crankpins was damaged and lost original profile.

Challenge faced by RA Power technicians for repair of damaged radius fillet and crankpin while sailing of the vessel

The vessel was loaded with containers and it was not possible to hold it at port or at anchorage. The decision was taken by the ship owners that RA Power Solutions have to repair all the crankpins while sailing of the vessel from Singapore to Malaysia and Merak port Indonesia.

Due to damage of radius fillet it was a challenge for RA Power Solutions technicians to repair the radius fillet and to undertake grinding of crankpin while sailing of the vessel.

Our technicians who are experienced to face such a challenging situation were successful in repairing all six number crankpins of engine MAN B&W 6 L23/30. 

The crankshaft after repair was jointly inspected with the ship superintendent & chief engineer and all parameters were observed within limits.

The engine has been commissioned and is performing satisfactory.
