The practical solution is in-situ line boring combined with metal stitching.

Metal Stitching Before Line Boring
When cracks are present around the main bearing housing, line boring alone is not sufficient. The casting must first be repaired using the Metal Stitching and Metal Locking process. This cold repair method restores the strength of the casting without welding, heat, or distortion.
Once the crack is permanently repaired, precision line boring is carried out to restore the bearing housing to OEM specifications.
